Holding is Next to Knowing invited viewers to consider the political space that is occupied by feminine bodies. Featuring work by five artists drawing on queer, indigenous and immigrant histories, the proximal relationship between bodies and societies is explored through careful studies of physical boundaries and the unveiling of quiet acts of resistance. Video, textile and sculptural works meditate upon identities forged and definitions forced, through a series of embodied actions that mark the personal as territory to be won.
In support of the exhibition, Sister Gallery hosted a readings night where Adelaide-based readers read passages from texts proposed by the exhibiting artists of Holding is Next to Knowing.
Readers included:
Alison Coppe (for Kate Power)
Lizzy Emery (for Liss LaFleur)
Mahira Hasanovic (for Patricia Bordallo Dibildox)
Rhen Soggee (for Anna Dunnill)
